Adweek wrote very nicely: QR codes have been exhibiting an uncharacteristic characteristic lately—they’ve been not sucking as much – and I agree. I guess when you think about it, there could be very creative ways to use QR codes, and a lot more brands using them that way. And if you find a use for your QR code that will please your customer (or in other words – not suck), like the one we’re featuring here, well then – bingo. That’s practically priceless, because if you use them in the right way, QR codes are fun, engaging, and you know almost everyone will scan them and have a talk or two about the product & brand thus spreading the word around, which is always a major plus.
This story about fun use of a QR code starts with Guinness and a glass – a specially made cup, distributed to bars, which, when you fill it up with Guinness, shows a QR code. By scanning the code, your phone “tweets about your pint, updates your Facebook status, checks you in via Foursquare, downloads coupons and promotions, invites your friends to join you, and even launches exclusive Guinness content.”
