How about a McDonald’s in Australia?

Ozzies affectionately coined the term Macca’s for the fast food giant, a word that apparently 50% percent of the population uses. Seeing the authentic slang as a way to start up an affectionate dialogue with the populace, the McDaddy swamped usual signage with ones bearing the nickname in celebration of Australia day, which falls on January 26th. This is a feat never before attempted by MickyDee’s, but a nation with a unique taste for jargon deserves a unique PR endeavor.

“We’ve been a part of Australia for over 40 years now and we’re incredibly proud to embrace our ‘Australian-only’ nickname,” said Mark Lollback, the company’s chief marketing officer in Australia.

The signs will be taken down on the 4th of February, after which The McDonald’s name will return to its former length, although the word will remain the second most recognized Australianism (the first being footy for football), and will surely nestle itself even deeper within the playful spirit of  unofficial language.
