Recently, while attending the New York Festival World’s Best Advertising event, I had the pleasure of meeting Jimmy Smith. For those of you who do not know, Jimmy is a veteran of our industry, having walked the offices of Wieden + Kennedy, BBDO and TBWA/Chiat/Day LA. He partook in iconic moves such as rebranding Gatorade to “G” and outstanding brands such as Nike. Now, after being named one of the top 100 most creative people by Fast Company in 2012, Jimmy is the CEO and CCO of Amusement Park Entertainment, a company that focuses on executing hard-hitting concepts and acquiring exemplary talent.

During our chat, Jimmy discusses some of his past experiences and how those led to him founding his own company. He delves into the culture of Amusement Park, delineating the importance of creative freedom and subsequent ownership. He also gives us a bit of a heads-up regarding his vision for the future – and whether the big agencies should be worried in the face of increasing amounts of small (but nimble) rivals.
