Turkish Airlines and CP+B London unveiled a new campaign that got a lot of attention in a short amount of time. Maybe, it’s because the main “actors” are popular footballers Didier Drogba and Lionel Messi, but maybe it’s also because of the unpredictable and unexpected twist at the end of the commercial.
The ad is promoting world-wide destinations Turkish Airline has to offer, using Chelsea’s Drogba and Barcelona’s Messi, but they also show the airline’s services such as in-flight catering.
The ad’s basic premise is Drogba constantly trying to beat Messi’s popularity. He travels the world and tries traditional cuisines, but everywhere he goes, Messi is spoiling the moment by looking at him from the image on the wall. Football stars are known to be competitive in general (well, nothing strange due to their jobs), but who’ll be the first to try the food in Turkish Airlines? You’ll have to watch the ad to find out. Worth it, if you ask me.
Drogba will use money from this campaign to build a hospital in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, that is supported by The Didier Drogba Foundation. If you want to find out more about the campaign, I suggest you to use #EpicFood hashtag.
What does Serdar Ekrem Şirin, Turkish Airlines Advertising Manager, have to say about the campaign? “Turkish Airlines is passionate about food – from the amazing cuisine of our country to every dish that we serve on our flights and in our lounges. Turkish Airlines targets culturally curious travellers, who are bored with conventional destinations and sightseeing, and want to experience life as a local. Food is the best way to understand a culture, which is why we care so much about our catering and why we’ve made food the true hero of our new campaign”, he explained.
This is not the first commercial of this type by Turkish Airlines. They’ve already had great success with basketball legend Kobe Bryant and Messi with an amazing 139 million views on YouTube. Will Messy’s clash with Drogba will be able to reach “Selfie Shoot-out” level?
