Starbucks + Facebook = a winning combination to promote the return of the very anticipated Pumpkin Spice Latte and to open the door to the new fall holiday season. A new Pumpkin Spice Latte application and challenge will be unveiled on Starbucks’ page on monday.

The application/game will take advantage of about 24 million Facebook users to compete in order to bring Pumpkin Spice Latte to their cities a week before the official release date.

Alex Wheeler, vice president of global digital marketing for Starbucks says:

“One of the things that we know about the Pumpkin Spice Latte is that we have a huge fan base around this beverage that we bring back every year. We wanted to do something fun and different this year … and empower customers to bring it to their city first.”

The Facebook application will include points-based activities with fans earning points for city shout-outs, solving a daily challenge or making a daily creation. No doubt that this move will generate a lot of buzz for both Facebook & Starbucks given the fact that the community revolving around Starbucks is huge. The contest will run from August 22 to 26, and the Pumpkin Spice Latte will be released to stores in the winning cities on August 30. It looks like Starbucks is slowly getting ready for Halloween.
