Starbucks opened a new drive-thru coffee shop in Tukwila, Washington on December 13th, and it’s made only from four recycled shipping containers. It was designed by resident Starbucks architects to LEED green building standards and has integrated rainwater harvesting.
The inspiration came from the fact that Starbucks is using containers to ship their coffee and tea to worldwide locations. The idea is very simple and clever – why throw the old containers, when they can be used again? Plus it sends a socially responsible image, improving the company’s look.
The Reclamation drive-thru is the first of its kind and there is only one for now, but it is being viewed as a prototype that could be replicated in other locations. Check it out:
