We’re all familiar with Johnnie Walker’s iconic Blue Label, but folks at Thinfilm in collaboration with Diageo Technology Ventures created a “Smart Bottle” that senses bottle movements across the supply chain, in-store and when the bottle has been opened by the customer. Customers can also scan the bottle with their smartphones by using its Near Field Communication (NFC).

According to Diageo, this could be useful when they “upload promotional offers while the bottle is in the shop but change that information to cocktail recipes when the sensors show the bottle has been opened at home.”
